Primavera: spring in Italian
Poesia: poetry in Italian
Today is the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. This is a collaboration of some of my favorite poets on Substack around the theme of spring! Please check out and subscribe to their blogs if you like their work! I will link them right under each poem.
Natures v@mit
Empty my chest
and you will find
sea water and algae
vomitting itself out my insides
Right out the mouth of my ribs
hooves of deer
eyes of birds
talons of buzzards
ripping through my skin
That was all I ever was
all I ever am
able to be
a human made of sticks
and sand and leaves
Spring escapes me
through a chest cavity
and tulips grow up my throat
Wasps stinging inside of me
giving me the itching desire
to grow for my life

Walking tour
Let’s set out on this winding path-
It is spring, the rebirth in time and place
But no two buds bloom at the same pace.
Take a walking tour on this familiar path
It’s meaning is not lost or dulled after one time:
It makes new meanings through divine growth
Look at this tree- study its bark, appreciate the leaves.
See the ridges when you look closer
Run your fingers through them like and old friend
Leaf through the messages of the green
Each one a pamphlet of a life unique.
So take a walking tour with me.
Let’s set out at a leisurely jaunt
You are but one tree of many.
I know what you are thinking.
There are so many trees to admire
The soil is over-saturated with roots.
This may be true.
You may feel but an ant in this route
Or some type of bee or butterfly
But that matters not.
They do not cry.
They enjoy the flowers in front of them
The nectar of the world that they drift to
That we see from this tree.
If you back is sore from leaning
You can try sitting
It might not be in the spirit of continuing
But you are out anyway, you might as well enjoy it.
Feel the cool tickles of grass
See the soft flower petals caress
Breathe the fresh scent of the sky
Hear the branches soft sighs.
Feel the springtime flowing by.
And I’ll have tea for you waiting
Or fresh water if you prefer
But I will await your return.

awaken
the sounds of life remind me I’m alive and breathing
My focus is popped from a bubble of cold disassociation
I’m freed from winters scheming
Neighborhood dogs argue over grass patches to claim
And children explain the rules of a backyard game
I rest for a moment, taking in the memory through my senses
On this warm spring day, we come out of our caves
Breathe deeply, now, imagine it alongside me
Feel it through your own skin ands hear
Archive the moment in your mind’s storage
Savor the warmth, for autumn is just around the corner
Enjoy the time before it changes once again
Circular and repeating, effortlessly spinning in tune
with natures rhythm

I was telling my sister about this collab I was working on, and she jokingly belted out this poem. We were laughing so hard and I had to write it down. So I decided to include it. Here you go…
Groundhog (a comedic poem)
spring has sprung
winters gone
kill that groundhog
we want him gone
⁃ My sister
(no animals were harmed the making of this poem)
